It's important that you let XD know which artboard to begin with. Now I'm ready to take a look at the interaction that I've just defined.įor that, I want to come back on the design canvas and click on the first artboard in the flow. I'll go ahead and select Previous Artboard, and there are no other options in this case. This is the magic that will make sure that no matter what source artboard brought me here, I can always return to that source artboard by clicking that close box. Under Action Type, I want to change that to Previous Artboard. So under Trigger, we're going to stick with Tap. In the Properties Inspector, I want to change the value just a bit. XD lets me know I have the wire selected with this sort of short tail wire. With it selected, rather than pressing and dragging the wire, go ahead and click and release on that arrow. If I have trouble selecting it again, I can make sure in the chairs detail artboard that I've clicked on that icon close group, just at the group level. For that, I'm going to click right there on that close box. If I hit the close box, I want it to take me back to the previous artboard. This behaves a bit like a lightbox where it will come into view. For that, I'd like them to in essence to be able to click on this close box. Next, I'd like to define a way that the viewer can go from this second artboard back to the first, just for the purpose of my prototype right now. You're welcome to play with these values if you'd like, just to experiment a little bit. For Easing, I'll stick with Easing In and Out for a Duration of. Under Animation, it's grayed out because it doesn't relate when I'm using a Tap gesture. That's nice when you have many, many artboards and don't want to be dragging a wire across the entire canvas. I could change to any other artboard in the project by clicking on this drop-down. Under Type, I'm going to stay with Transition. I'm going to go with the defaults for now, just so you can see the basics, and we'll expand from there. And I can now come in and set my interaction attributes here. So I'll roll over it and then click to make sure it's blue or active. This wire is currently disabled or not active. I can come in and click on the title of the first artboard and when I do so, I can see any wires that might have been defined for the artboard. If I were to click off on the design canvas, you can no longer see it. Now let's say I made a mistake and I accidentally deselected the wire. It's only when you're clicking within that artboard to go forward that you define basically areas within the artboard as a hot spot or a trigger area. There's really only one door into an artboard. What I want to do is come to the second artboard, and I can tell when I have it selected, because it gets a blue highlight. I can go in any direction with this wire - the canvas will actually scroll if I get to the edges of the canvas. With it selected, I'm going to come to that arrow there on the right-hand side and press and drag my wire. I also could come here in the Layers panel and directly select the group called Product Sheru. I can tell that it's the only thing selected because I get a blue highlight with the arrow to the right. So for that, I'm going to click a second time, which will tunnel me into the hierarchy and allow me to select just that tile. I want them to specifically click on a product area. I don't want the user to click anywhere on the artboard. If I were to click on the title of the artboard, notice that the entire artboard turns blue, and to the right of that artboard, I can see the ability to define a wire. To do that, I want to come in and select the area that I want to let the user click in. What I want to do in this first step is implement the simplest of a wireframe flow, basically connecting this artboard to the second by allowing the user to click on this tile to get a detailed view of the chair. Here on the design canvas, I'm going to hold down the spacebar to bring up the Hand tool and press and drag so that I can see these two primary artboards a bit more clearly on the design canvas. I did that by clicking on the second icon from the lower left-hand corner of the app. I also want to make sure I have the Layers panel open. To do that, here in the upper left-hand corner, I'm going to change modes from Design to Prototype. I want to make sure that I'm in Prototype mode. If you're following along with me, you'll want to have Step 0: Wire artboards in the practice file visible on the design canvas. In this first step, let's define some interactions between artboards. Sprinting Track Spikes (Best for 55m - 400m): Typically the lightest track spikes you can find, sprinting spikes have design features like carbon-fiber plates that keep them stiff and snappy to help you gain speed. The spike count tends to find a happy medium between 5-7 spikes to deliver more propulsion as you sprint through the 400m. Mid-distance spikes will retain the midsole and heel cushioning found in long distance spikes, but will often have a harder spike plate and less flexibility to deliver a responsive ride. Mid-Distance Track Spikes (Best for 400m - 1500m): These shoes are much more of a specialist shoe than long distance or sprinting spikes, and include features from both. The spike count can range from 4-6 spikes to give you grip and traction without disturbing your natural cadence. The spike plate is often made of the same outsole material as the rest of the shoe, or it is a more flexible material like PEBAX. Long Distance Track Spikes (Best for 800m-5K): These are the most flexible and have the most midsole and heel cushioning while still keeping a slender profile and light weight. To deliver the best possible performance, track spikes are engineered to accommodate these differences by using different foams, spike configurations and plate materials. Long distance runners often run with more of a heel-toe gait while sprinters are on the balls of their feet during their races. Your body moves differently and requires different support as your race shorter or longer distances. Read more in our Best Track and Cross Country Spike guide. If you are racing on an indoor track, there can be regulations on the length of spike you are allowed to wear in order to keep the track intact as it’s used on average, one-eighth (⅛) inch spikes are the standard for indoor track.Īs you gain experience and fine tune the feel you prefer in your spikes, you can toy around with a variety of spike shapes from pyramid to needle spikes on the track, but always be sure to check the meet rules before changing out your spikes. Quarter (¼) inch spikes are usually a safe go-to for outdoor track races and field events. Long distance track spikes typically have four or five spikes, while sprinting and mid-distance spikes can range from six to ten spikes, which provides the extra grip needed to reach top speeds.ĭepending on the surface you race on, you’ll want to choose the appropriate spike length so you don’t find yourself sliding around an indoor track. Make sure you understand how your spikes affect your performance so you can choose the best track spikes for you.Ī good rule of thumb: the longer the distance, the fewer spikes in the spike plate. Buying track spikes for the first time can be daunting. His acuity for mathematics would lead him to become a physicist at the California Institute of Technology, and the owner of nearly fifty patents on lasers and optoelectronics. As a first-grader, Lang proved far too clever for elementary mathematics and quickly became bored, prompting his teacher to give him a book on origami. The marriage of mathematics and origami harkens back to Lang's own childhood. Each work is the result of software (which Lang himself pioneered) that manipulates thousands of mathematical calculations in the production of a "folding map" of a single creature. His repertoire includes a snake with one thousand scales, a two-foot-tall allosaurus skeleton, and a perfect replica of a Black Forest cuckoo clock. It’s still hanging on the wall of my office and is one of my favorite pieces since at the time it was by far the most complex thing I had attempted.Origami, as Robert Lang describes it, is simple: "You take a creature, you combine it with a square, and you get an origami figure." But Lang's own description belies the technicality of his art indeed, his creations inspire awe by sheer force of their intricacy. I also used glue in a couple of strategic places to help hold the whole thing together, and somehow managed to almost completely hide the seams where I taped the paper together inside the model (we examined the crease pattern beforehand to pick where the seams would be so they wouldn’t be visible). The extra thickness of the paper made folding the deer’s head almost impossible, but the rest of the model held up well and I was able to wet-shape parts of it. We didn’t have large Kraft paper, but instead taped together 4 strips of Elephant Hide paper to make a 1’ x 10’ rectangle. I actually folded it alongside a good friend who was doing his own which made it more bearable, and there was a lot of beer involved after each folding session too. I remember being sore crawling all around the floor doing all the pre-creasing. That came out extremely well! That description you wrote brings back memories of when I folded it 8 years ago. If you've done this model before, I'm very much interested to hear any tips/tricks you have. I don't think that ordinary packaging Kraft is working well here at all, but the ridiculous proportions present a challenge in finding a good paper (I'm pretty much guessing the correct solution will likely be something homemade). However, before that, I'll have to figure out what paper would actually work for this, and how do I solve the problem of inaccuracy when I have to deal with such an enormous paper. I definitely want a second go at this sometime to try to actually do better. And even when I've resorted to glue, there's still spots where the result seems unsatisfactory to me like the gaps at the sides of the clock-face, the angles of the leaves, and how the weights/pendulum don't go straight down. Not only did the locking mechanism for the clock-face feel very flimsy, I also needed glue to seal the deer face at the top, to straighten the board for the bird, to make the seal at the bottom of the pineapple weights firm, and to somewhat try to straighten the pendulum. For the first time with my recent models, I had to resort to glue during shaping for a passable result. Still I'm far, far from satisfied with this one. Never would have believed that folding paper could make me exhausted, but here we are. I was working on an attic floor and am not in the best possible shape, so the precreasing/collapse was an actual workout that literally made my legs sore. Those of you who know the model probably already know how ridiculous the paper for this is: folded from a long 48cm x 480cm rectangle of packaging paper (likely Kraft). Help! Both mattresses have a height of 12 inches with three foam layers: two top comfort layers and a high-density foam base. The Vibe has a similar construction as the Loom & Leaf.
