People will go through a lot of stuff for their hair," Brown said. "I want all the little girls my children's age, women my age, my mama's age to know, don't let hair make you. She's hoping to help other Black women learn to accept themselves, and their hair. "It feels like Christmas morning! I don't think anyone will understand how amazing this is," she shared.īrown is now turning her mistake into a message. The surgery was a success, Brown's hair is officially Gorilla Glue free. Like, who just goes in their kitchen saying, let's mix up some stuff and get this out of this girl's head? Dr. His foundation, Restore Worldwide, provides and covers the cost of reconstructive surgeries for people across the world. "When I heard about Tessica, the ordeal she had been through, the pain, the suffering, having her hair stuck to her scalp for a month, the least I could do was to reach out and extend my services," said Dr. Michael K Obeng, who said he could remove the glue from her hair, free of charge. Just when Brown was ready to give up, she said she received a call about a plastic surgeon in Los Angeles, Dr. It's a very daunting and difficult and exhausting thing to have to do," he said. That means having our hair straightened, having it all neat and sufficient in order to assimilate. "African Americans, especially African American women, have had to have 400 years of assimilation to a white standard of aesthetics. It's a struggle that Chicago salon owner and hairstylist Rahni Flowers said is all too common among Black women.įlowers, of Van Cleef Hair Studio, said while Brown's story doesn't come as a surprise, it does sadden him. "If I wouldn't have cared so much about my hair, I wouldn't be going through this right now." This has been a problem for me for a long time," she explained. "If I can't do nothing else, I'm going to make sure my hair is on point. "(I thought) if you have another flaw, if your hair is together, you know you look better," she said.

It can be changed using the up and down arrow keys. I had no performance issues at all and felt no need to explore lower rates. It's possible to override this manually, but you're strongly advised not to do so to avoid aliasing and other obvious artifacts. Reaktor 6 is here And so is Matt Cellitti to show us what’s new and how it works Along the way, you see how to build an instrument with Reaktor’s modules a. And since Reaktor itself was receiving but the Ensemble wasn't, there wasn't much other option for the cause.Įdit: Look in the bottom right corner of the Virtual Keyboard to see what channel its transmitting on. Monark is designed for a sample rate of 88.2/96kHz, which should be set automatically in Reaktor. Cause, like I said, Reaktor Ensembles default to receive on channel 1. So either your MIDI controller AND Reaper's Virtual Keyboard are sending on a channel other than 1, or you've created some kind of routing issue (a MIDI Send from another track) that is inadvertently changing the channel on you. And yes, the default for 'Map input to channel' is Source. The MONARK oscillator, filter, and envelope are also available as individual modules in REAKTOR Blocks a framework that turns REAKTOR 6 into a fully-equipped, rack-style modular synth. Your MIDI keyboard, or the Reaper Virtual keyboard, is clearly not transmitting on channel 1. Its the same thing I was saying the whole time. While using only a small selection of Blocks, it’s capable of producing a wide array of unusual and exciting sounds. Just wondering though - what is the default setting in Reaper's MIDI input 'Map input to channel'? Native Instruments latest Reaktor synth, Monark, is a powerful emulation of the Minimoog. It appears I have the problem resolved but only time will tell and I must be off to bed now as I will have an early start. Its steadfastly monophonic and steers well clear. You can tell that both elements are there, but they still work great together. Monark is not a standalone virtual instrument, but runs either within Reaktor 5 or the free Reaktor 5 Player. It’s pretty amazing, actually Monark and Aiyn Zahev’s sound design both have a very strong and distinct character, and both characters are coming across here at the same time. Please share a funny story in the comments here or a silly photo of you and Butt Paste on Instagram. He still does a few appearances each year on behalf of the brand and I’m thankful that BlogHer was one of them. George, I didn’t have the heart to tell you that they beat my beloved Buckeyes to get it. He spends a lot more time with his family these days and travels to every LSU football game, he even showed me his 2007 championship ring, a gift from the LSU coach. Boudreaux was part Cajun sweetness, part savvy business man, and all delightful to talk to. I also love that the brand has a sense of humor and some fantastic, funny campaigns like this:ĭr. I laughed when my friend recommended it, and now Butt Paste is one of my favorite baby products. In 2006, ran an article asking what Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie should use on Shiloh’s little bum when she had a diaper rash, readers overwhelmingly recommended Butt Paste, so George overnighted a pound of it so they could try it themselves.Īnd the rest, they say, is history. In 2004, Oprah had George on in a 5 minute segment about quirky ideas and the influx of traffic crashed the company’s website, their supplier worked for months to keep up with orders. Then, Al Roker mentioned Butt Paste on the Today Show and fifteen minutes later, retailers were calling, clamoring to get it into their stores. They had nothing to lose and sure enough, it started to sell, albeit slowly. He believed in it so much in fact, that he offered to retailers that he would buy back any product that didn’t sell and cover their shipping costs as well. He said at that point, he knew he was on to something and he decided to package it and sell it, but no one wanted to buy an unknown product with the funny name. She came into the pharmacy and requested some of George Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. One in particular took her baby to the doctor with a horrible diaper rash and her doctor sent her right over to George. He experimented with his formula until it was perfect and word spread with local moms. In the seventies, he started mixing up batches of cream for diaper rash for his customers. We had a little chat and he told me the story of how his Butt Paste got from his little pharmacy in Louisiana to my neighborhood store.ĭr. George Boudreaux, the man who invented Butt Paste. As a mom, it’s a pretty good clue when your two year old requests it during a diaper change.Īt BlogHer, I got to meet and talk to Dr. As if I needed a reminder of how much I love this product. It was destiny that two days before I left for BlogHer, Tate got a wicked stomach bug and we were using the Butt Paste on her little bum at every diaper change. Eddie Van Halen was Abbott’s main influence, and Bumblebee was Abbott’s all-time favorite guitar.įor more information, please visit learn something new every day what did you learn today? In an eternal sign of deep respect, Eddie’s original Bumblebee guitar was buried alongside Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, who died tragically in 2004. “Bumblebee,” as it would quickly come to be known by fans, became insanely popular and remains a longtime favorite for Van Halen listeners everywhere. After all these modifications, only the original body, striped paint job, screw-eye strap hooks and Schaller® tuners remained from the first version of the guitar. He also swapped out the chrome volume knob with a Strat-style skirted “Tone” knob. He instead outfitted the instrument with a prototype two-point Floyd Rose® bridge and locking nut with retainer bar, becoming the first professional rock guitarist to use a locking-nut tremolo system. Van Halen also stripped out the original Charvel bridge, leaving its six screw holes behind. He rewound the pickup by hand, dipped it in paraffin wax and put copper tape around the windings. After selecting a DiMarzio® Super Distortion humbucking pickup, he swapped out its ceramic magnet for an alnico 2 magnet from a Gibson® PAF. He installed a new Boogie Bodies maple neck with a natural headstock, unfinished back (which he has always preferred) and 12”-radius dot-inlay maple fingerboard. While pleased with the looks of the guitar, Van Halen was less impressed with its tone and quickly began tinkering with it, as he was prone to do. Other features on the first-incarnation guitar (as pictured on Van Halen II) were a standard nut, single Mighty Mite humbucking pickup with transparent bobbins, single chrome volume knob, original Charvel six-screw brass tremolo bridge, and Schaller® tuning keys. While he tasked Wayne Charvel to cut the body, the maple neck was made by Lynn Ellsworth at Boogie Bodies with dot inlays on a maple fingerboard. Van Halen had the idea to build a new guitar with an ash body and black-and-yellow-stripe paint job, with rear-loaded electronics so there would be no pickguard. Notably, the back of the headstock of each guitar bears Eddie Van Halen’s signature, adding to the value and the once-in-a lifetime collector’s nature of this instrument.Īrriving in a custom-made Anvil® hardshell case, the package also includes ’70s-era Fender® Super Bullets strings, Van Halen ’70s tortoiseshell picks, an exclusive Bumblebee collector’s booklet, Young Guitar book Van Halen Live Tour in Japan 1978 & 1979, and several autographed items-a certificate of authenticity, 8”x10” 1979 concert photo of Eddie Van Halen and vinyl copy of Van Halen II.ĭuring the recording process for Van Halen II, Eddie Van Halen sought something fresh to play other than his original “Frankenstrat,” which at the time was being heavily copied by many major guitar companies. Its black-with-yellow-stripes paint job has also been reliced to match the wear and tear from his heavy year of touring in 1979, and the guitar is stylishly finished off with chrome hardware. All hardware has been reliced, including the custom brass string retainer, screw-eye strap hooks, side output jack and original period-correct Schaller® tuning machines. EVH also matched the Bumblebee’s six screw holes, (hidden under the original prototype non-fine tuner locking tremolo bridge that EVH recreated just for this project), along with the original prototype locking nut. True to Van Halen’s pickup recipe, the instrument has been outfitted with an EVH ’79 Bumblebee humbucking bridge pickup. Limited to 50 instruments worldwide, the meticulously recreated ’79 Bumblebee tribute model features all of the original specs, including an ash Strat® body, bolt-on birdseye maple neck with oiled back finish, straight 12” radius birdseye maple fingerboard with 22 jumbo frets, katalox dots and black side dots, and skirted Strat-style “Tone” volume knob. “So it may have taken 40 years, but I now have everything I wanted back then - a bitchin’-looking guitar that plays and sounds great.” “The ’79 Bumblebees that we’re making sound very much like how I always wanted the original to sound,” said Van Halen. Eddie Van Halen debuted this wildly iconic black-with-yellow-stripes guitar on the cover of the seminal album, and played it extensively throughout the band’s 1979 world tour. (July 18, 2019) – In celebration of the 40 th anniversary of five-time platinum-selling 1979 album Van Halen II, EVH® is privileged to unveil the ’79 Bumblebee tribute guitar. U gonna come over and pick me up in your ride Until the vast majority of the US population gets broadband, we will continue to see movies on tangible media. Now we gonna do this thing a lil different tonight Making a shift to entirely digital download will limit the profit that companies can make. As of June 30th 2009, there are 70 million broadband users in the USA. However to the eye, this increase in resolution may not be noticable after a certain point, Secondly movies will not shift to digital download only. Likewise, the movie industry will also take advantage of this technology as HD Plus camera equipment, and televisions are developed. You can play games in HD PLUS resolution. Many of us who play PC games on high end systems know that resolutions higher than 1080p are achievable with current games. So i see at least one more home format which will be backwards compatible with Blu Ray and probably DVD. We will get 4K and 3D and Deep Color and other improvements which could theoretically be on the current discs but ideally speaking would require more space to really make it all work. I think its possible we might get one more HD format five or six years from now and it will be an evolution of the current technology. I can see streaming movies in HD becoming popular and i believe it will be of a lesser quality than Blu Ray provides as they try to compress the images more. I see downloads replacing the rental market entirely within fifteen to twenty years once the infrastructure can cope with the massive bandwidth requirements and have reliable speed during peak hours. I prefer to actually own the media in a physical form such as a disc. 2-3 GB/sec Time for Blu to go mainstream. Once storage capacity can easily hold 10-20 terabytes per optical disc than yes a new format will come about. Last edited by CaptainCanuck 09-13-2009 at 04:14 AM.
